This trade could happen today. I think the Clippers and Raptors have agreed on player compensation. I think it’d be Brandon Ingram based on what I am told. What they have been haggling over is the draft pick compensation.
And while the Clippers are not willing to offer Leonard an extension (he has one year left on his deal at $50M), the Raptors are.
Toronto has up to four first-rounders available to trade, and "the Clippers are going to want multiple of those," says Windy.
Brett Siegel of Clutch Points echoes that sentiment.
“The biggest hurdle in trade talks between the Raptors and Clippers over the last few days and extending into last night was that LA wants to maximize Leonard's value and do not want the deal to end up being one-sided. That is why the Clippers have been asking for multiple picks,” Siegel wrote.
Ja'Kobe Walter and Collin Murray-Boyles are reportedly off-limits; the Raptors will not be including them in any potential trade.
Given that Kawhi has said that Toronto (and potentially San Antonio) is the only team he'd consider signing an extension with, Clutch Points adds that a trade to Toronto appears to be an "inevitable conclusion."
Leonard, of course, led the Raptors to their first NBA championship back in 2019, before leaving as a free agent that summer for LA.
