Report: Draymond Green Could Pull Shocking Move In Free Agency

Draymond Green is a Golden State Warriors legend. A four-time champion and team leader for the past . He spent the last several weeks trying to recruit LeBron James to join him and Steph Curry in San Francisco so the Dubs can make one more run at a title.

Now that James has stunned the basketball world by taking his talents to the Philadelphia 76ers, it sounds like Draymond is potentially thinking about a quick and shocking pivot, to join LeBron in Philly.

He’s currently a free agent after declining his $27.7 million player option, and now every option is on the table.

He can re-sign with the Warriors, get paid, and finish his career alongside Steph Curry.

Green originally declined his $27.7 million player option and became a free agent, to give the Warriors the flexibility to go after LeBron. He was going to re-sign for about $28M as soon as the James decision came down. 

But now, Clutch Points is reporting that Green could be considering taking a lot less money to go and join LeBron in Philadelphia, along with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, etc., to try to win a title there. 

Would Draymond Green take a $24M pay cut to join LeBron in Philly?

The Sixers would not have the available room in their salary structure to give Draymond much more than the minimum, which is similar to the type of deal that James took. He'd also have to accept a bench role, with LeBron, Brown, and Embiid in the frontcourt ahead of him. 

But just how much is winning another championship worth to Green? Is it worth about $24 million?

For what it's worth, ESPN's Anthony Slater was asked about the idea of Green taking a pay cut to play elsewhere: "Draymond would have to take the minimum. … I know Draymond Green. He likes $27.7 million a lot more than $3.9 million," Slater said.
