Wild Anthony Davis Trade Idea Floated
Anthony Davis says he wants to stay with the Washington Wizards, the team that traded for him at last season's deadline. He has yet to suit up for the Wiz, but he has every intention of doing so this season.
However, there's a rumor making the rounds that LeBron James would be keen to reunite with AD if the two of them could join forces with Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
Now, insider Fred Katz of The Athletic has floated a wild idea that could get Davis traded to the Dubs, and make this reunion happen. It all has to do with LeBron & AD's agent Rich Paul's podcast, where he's been dropping rumors and hints about James' free agent future.
Katz cited that Philadelphia 76ers owner Bob Myers appeared on Paul's “Game Over” podcast this week, pitching the agent on why LeBron should come to Philly. That's where Katz got his brainstorm of a trade idea between the Warriors and the Wizards:
Paul’s podcast should observe the same rules as political journalists, who must provide equal airtime to political candidates. Each episode should feature a new front-office head who is wooing James. Bring on (Cleveland's) Koby Altman, (Miami's) Pat Riley and Tim Connelly (Minnesota). And then host a special edition show with two lead executives: Mike Dunleavy Jr. from the Warriors and Michael Winger from the Washington Wizards — and make them negotiate an Anthony Davis trade in front of the cameras for the world to see.
Sounds wild and fun, though probably not very likely.
Katz's offer was, of course, in jest, but he did provide some negotiating leverage options, just in case there's a world where LeBron & AD in DC is still a possibility:
"If James were to tell the Warriors that he’d go there as long as they acquired Davis too, then Washington would hold the leverage. And if Golden State offered a luscious return for James’ former running mate, the Wizards would have no choice but to listen."
Still some juicy news to come this NBA offseason, and we're all here for it.
