A Very Influential 2-Time NBA Champ Tries To Lure Klay Thompson To Lakers
Klay Thompson, from all accounts, is working hard on a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks. Should that come to pass, there would be quite a few teams with interest in the former Splash Brother. Still an elite long-range bomber, Klay could help a number of clubs off the bench, even at the age of 36.
The one team that has a very influential voice trying to recruit Klay is the LA Lakers. It seems that former two-time Lakers world champion Mychal Thompson—yes, Klay's father—is working hard to lure his son back to their hometown.

Thompson, the elder, played for the Lakers from 1987 through 1991, and played a big role off the bench in their NBA championships in '87 and '88.

Thompson, the younger, has twice as many rings as his dad, with four titles from his days with the Golden State Warriors. Klay is heading into his 14th NBA season, but it's pretty clear the Dallas Mavericks are looking to move on from him as they build a younger team around Cooper Flagg.
Last year, Klay averaged a career-low 11.7 points per game and a 38.3% mark from three-point range. He came off the bench for the first time in his career and averaged a personal low 21.7 minutes per night.
Other teams in the mix for Klay, either by trade or buyout, include the Miami Heat and a reunion with the Warriors.
