On the Hoop Collective podcast on Friday, MacMahon said this:
“You better believe there's teams around the league that are looking at that situation and saying, 'Hey, if this thing goes sideways, we'd sure like to get Luka in the midway through his prime.'
"Just like Joker [Nikola Jokic] can profess his loyalty to the Nuggets, there's still going to be teams that are positioning themselves and monitoring that and all that kind of thing. It's the same thing with Luka Dončić."
Is Luka's future in LA secured? Rival teams are 'monitoring' it
MacMahon went on to admit that Doncic has said nothing but good things about his future with the Lakers since signing his three-year, $165 million extension a year ago.
"But it's not that long-term of an extension," said MacMahon.
What if this Lakers season doesn't go as well as hoped?
Doncic can opt out in 2028. Of course, even if he does, it could simply be to sign a supermax extension back with LA.
Nothing is for sure in this league, though. Doncic was supposed to be a Dallas Maverick for life, in case you've forgotten.
