Stunning Announcement From Russell Westbrook On His Future
After an offseason of very little interest from teams as a free agent, legendary point guard Russell Westbrook has announced that he is retiring from the NBA.
Westbrook posted his own video on social media, vaguely making his announcement.After 18 NBA seasons, Russell Westbrook has retired. Westbrook played 18 seasons in the Association, and his accomplishments were many:
- Named to NBA’s Top 75 Players of All-Time
- 2017 league MVP
- 9-time All-Star
- 9-time All-NBA
- 5th All-Time in Assists
- All-Time NBA leader in triple-doubles
- USA Olympic Gold Medalist
One of those illustrious feats will be erased this season, when Nikola Jokic undoubtedly passes him for most career triple-doubles; he is only 11 behind, and had 34 of them this past season.
Westbrook was the No. 4 pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics, and finished with career averages of 20.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game.
A report from Charania said that Westbrook had offers this offseason from the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards, two of his more recent teams. He also had offers from a couple of teams overseas. But in the end, he decided to retire on his own terms.
