Warriors Looking To Add These 2 Free Agents

The Golden State Warriors didn't get to land their big fish (aka LeBron James) or any other of their top targets this summer, but with two remaining standard 15-man roster openings plus a vacant two-way contract slot, the Dubs still plan to add a couple of bodies. 

And with that, two free agents on the open market are on their radar, in Georges Niang and Brandon Williams. 

Insider Marc Stein calls it "legitimate interest" by the Warriors. 

Williams, 26, had a breakthrough season for the Dallas Mavericks last year, and he is a nice under-the-radar option still available on the free agent market. He averaged 13.0 points per game over 66 contests, with 3.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds, while averaging 22.2 minutes per night.

Niang has been around a while, though he missed all of last season with a foot injury. He'll be going into his 10th season when he finds a landing spot. He had a career-best 28-game stretch in finishing up the 2024-25 campaign with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 12 ppg in 28 games. He's been a 40% three-point shooter throughout his career. 

Golden State is struggling to fill out its lineup for the start of the season, as two key players, Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, will begin the campaign injured. The Warriors haven't had a full 15-man roster from the start of a season since 2022. But this year will be different. 

"I think we'll go 15, based on the injuries to Moses and Jimmy," GM Mike Dunleavy said. "That puts us at 13 on opening night – available players. To stick with 14, a lot of that was kind of avoiding tax and apron issues. I think right now we put ourselves in a position to carry 15 on opening night, and would be pretty surprised if we didn't." 

Meanwhile, Dunleavy is confident he can add after the season starts, if players he values become available.
