Whitmore has already joined the Nuggets for workouts in Denver.
The 22-year-old has averaged 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds over 119 career games through three NBA seasons. He's played a solid role as a high-flyer off the bench for the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards.
He came into the league with Houston as the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, and immediately asserted himself in the rotation, pouring in 12.3 points per game in just under 19 minutes per night.
He's on a two-way deal with the Nuggets, as the team couldn't afford to add him on a standard NBA contract, due to the exorbitant luxury tax penalties they face.
The Cleveland Cavaliers waived Whitmore this offseason for cap space themselves, after acquiring him from Washington in a trade. The Cavs will be picking up the tab on his fully guaranteed $5.46 million salary from his rookie-scale deal originally signed with the Rockets.
The athletic wing has a devastating first step and exceptional straight-line speed for downhill drives to the basket.
