One Team Rises Among The Rest To Sign Free Agent John Konchar

Earlier on Tuesday, we heard that a number of Eastern Conference contenders, including the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Toronto Raptors, were showing interest in sought-after free agent John Konchar. The tenacious defender and rebounding wing has made his choice, and he's going with the defending NBA champions. 

It's a one-year deal for the 6'5" guard with the Knicks; he'll serve a key depth role off the bench for the champs. The move also keeps some of their chief rivals in the East from landing him. 

Konchar, 30, spent 6 1/2 of his seven seasons in the NBA thus far with the Memphis Grizzlies. In 56 games last season, including a move to the Utah Jazz in the second half, he averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.9 minutes per game. But in 26 games for the Jazz, he averaged 5.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 26.2 minutes.

He was dealt in the offseason to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was then waived for salary relief after they acquired Jonathan Kuminga. 

Konchar will now join an extremely deep group of wings in New York, along with Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Jordan Clarkson and Landry Shamet.
