Report: Jalen Duren Prepared To Take HUGE Gamble

The confrontational talks between restricted free agent Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are still at an impasse. With the Pistons offering the young center a $190 million deal over five years, Duren is standing firm on wanting at least $200 million.

Instead, then, it sounds like he's willing to take a huge gamble, and leave $180M on the table.

Sam Amick reported in The Athletic this past week that the $190M offer was there for Duren, but he wasn't taking it.

His other option is to take a $9.6M qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent after the season. But it would also require him to take that $180M gamble that he doesn't get injured, or in some other way come up short in getting the max deal he thinks will be there on the open market.

According to insider Jake Fischer on Bleacher Report, "He has wanted $40M of average annual value, and nothing lower.

"Coming up to the final wire here (before training camp opens in a couple of weeks), he's gonna have until the start of training camp to either accept the latest Pistons offer, or accept the qualifying offer and move forward betting on himself with a chance to enter unrestricted free agency next summer.

"Jalen Duren is emboldened to some degree to actually take that qualifying offer because he knows that the Sacramento Kings have a lot of interest in potentially giving him a maximum salary contract next summer."

In the end, Fischer feels that that's too big of a risk, and that eventually a deal will be struck. He suggests perhaps a four-year deal at $160M, which would still give Duren the $40M AAV could be the compromise.

Tick tock. The clock is winding down to Decision Day for Duren.
