3 Landing Spots For De'Aaron Fox, Who Is 'Not Long' For San Antonio

Are De'Aaron Fox's days in San Antonio numbered? According to a report, the point guard's name will be on the trade market this season, as the Spurs move to bank more fully on their young backcourt of the present & future.

Per Sean Deveney of heavy.com, if Fox plays well to begin the season, the Spurs will look to capitalize and move him. But he's not saying it'll be easy.

“He does not have a long-term future in San Antonio, but he does have a long-term contract... It will be tough to trade a guy with four years and $223 million on his upcoming contract."

Of course, the reason the Spurs would be fine to trade Fox, despite committing to him last year on the extension that is just now kicking in, is that they have two young burgeoning All-Stars in the backcourt in Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper. The 20-year-old Harper said last week, "F** no. I ain't coming off no bench."

3 potential trade destinations for Fox include:

Boston Celtics

A couple of options have been proposed for the Celtics to try to land Fox. One would be convincing the Spurs to accept Paul George along with a future first-round pick. Another option that works financially is sending San Antonio Derrick White and Sam Hauser. However, White's importance to the C's makes this one highly dubious.

New Orleans Pelicans

Sai Mohan of heavy.com  has proposed a Trey Murphy & Jordan Poole package to the Spurs, in return for Fox and Keldon Johnson. This could be of great interest to San Antonio due to the fact that "the Spurs would significantly bolster their three-point shooting with the additions of Murphy and Poole," said Mohan.

Orlando Magic

Fran Leiva of Fadeaway World has proposed an intriguing deal that would send Fox to the Magic in return for defensive backcourt dawg Jalen Suggs.

"Because he doesn’t demand high ball-usage to impact the game, he can seamlessly slide into a backcourt alongside Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper," writes Leiva. "Suggs would take on the toughest point guard assignment every single night, letting Castle and Harper share primary playmaking duties without forcing either of them into the tougher, energy-consuming defensive matchups."

For now, the Spurs will start the year with Fox. But it won't be long before Castle and Harper (the latter in particular) get a little antsy for more minutes.
