Jahlil Okafor Signs Non-Guaranteed Contract With Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have signed Jahlil Okafor to a non-guaranteed contract, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. He will be competing for the final spot on the roster.

Okafor was originally selected third overall in the 2015 NBA draft. He started off his career well with the 76ers, as he averaged 17.5 PPG and made the 2015-16 All-Rookie First Team. However, he's had trouble replicating that success since and has become more of a role player.

In 27 games this past season with the Detroit Pistons, Okafar averaged 5.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists. Earlier this month, he also was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for DeAndre Jordan, but was then waived shortly after. Jordan also has since signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In 247 career NBA games between the 76ers, Nets, New Orleans Pelicans and Pistons, Okafor has averaged 10.4 points, 4.7 rebound and 0.9 assists.

The 25-year-old center is still young enough where a bounce back of some kind is possible. If he impresses the Hawks, he should be able to stick around for the season.
