Kristaps Porzingis Sent To the Wizards In Major Trade

A major trade for the Dallas Mavericks, who have finally given up on the Kristaps Porzingis era, sending him to the Washington Wizards in return for guard Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

Both Porzingis and Dinwiddie had essentially worn out their welcomes with their teams. Dinwiddie was said to be 'no longer wanted' by his teammates, while the Porzingis experiment just simply never worked out in Dallas, as he has problems simply staying on the court.

A second-round pick also goes to the Wizards along with KP.

The Mavericks address their backcourt needs, as they were hoping for another ballhandler both to help this season, and as a backup in case they're unable to retain free agent-to-be Jalen Brunson this summer.

The Wizards, on the other hand, are taking a flyer that the potential upside of Porzingis could make for a 1-2 punch running mate for Bradley Beal going into the future, IF Beal re-signs with them this offseason. That much is still in question. According to Sports Illustrated's Howard Beck, he feels that Beal must have been advised of the Wizards' intent before this deal went down.
