NBA Insider: Stunning New Candidate Emerges for Knicks’ Head Coaching Job

Insider Marc Stein is reporting that the New York Knicks' head coaching search has led them to an interest in current Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd.

And others around the sport are not ruling out this shocking possibility.

“So you’ve got to bring in a relationships guy,” ESPN's Tim MacMahon said on The Hoop Collective podcast. “And listen, one of the names that’s been thrown out there is a man who’s under contract with another team, but definitely a guy who has relationships not just with Jalen Brunson, but with a lot of people in that organization. And that’s Jason Kidd. And what I will say about that is, I would not dismiss that possibility."

Will Jason Kidd leave Dallas for the New York Knicks?

What I can comfortably say is there certainly have been decisions, major franchise decisions (for the Mavericks) that have been made, that (Kidd) was not on board with.”

Let's see now... He couldn't be referring to the Luka Doncic trade, could he?

It certainly does leave open the chance that Kidd would want out of Dallas, and if so, he would thrive in the media spotlight of New York. The Hall of Famer spent seven years as an All-Star point guard with the New Jersey Nets, just across the Hudson River. And he also coached in Brooklyn for one season.

In his four years at the helm of the Mavs, Kidd has a .546 winning percentage. He went 13-20 after the Doncic trade this season.

The Knicks surprisingly fired head coach Tom Thibodeau earlier this week, after they made the Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
