Portland Trail Blazers Guard Waived
The Portland Trail Blazers have waived Dennis Smith Jr.
Smith will be sidelined for multiple weeks due to an elbow injury. Furthermore, with the Trail Blazers signing Trendon Watford to an NBA standard contract, they needed to open up a spot on their 15-man roster. Thus, these reasons ultimately made Smith expendable.
Smith was in his first season with the Trail Blazers this year, but his time with the franchise is now set to be over. In 37 contests with the team, he averaged 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. Overall, he's done what was asked of him coming off the bench, but Portland is ready to make changes to their roster. Now, the 24-year-old will be looking to sign a contract elsewhere.
Smith isn't a stranger to finding new homes. Over the course of his five-year career, he already has played for four different teams - the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Trail Blazers. In 216 career games between them, he has averaged 10.7 points. 2,9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
It will be interesting to see what happens next with Smith, but in the meantime, he will have to focus on recovering from his injury first.
