Video: Derrick White Makes Huge Impact In His Celtics Debut
The NBA Trade Deadline was this past Thursday and the Boston Celtics made a number of moves in an effort to improve their team. One such transaction netted them former San Antonio Spurs point guard Derrick White, who made his debut for the Celtics last night at TD Garden Arena against the Denver Nuggets. The 27-year-old combo guard came off the bench for just the second time this season, receiving a nice welcome from the hometown crowd when he did so.
White checked in with 4:35 left in the first quarter, immediately making an impact on the game and giving Boston the momentum heading into the second frame. When White entered the game the C's trailed by 10 points, and by the time the crafty guard made a Euro step layup for his third bucket of the night, they were up 35-32 just 40 seconds into the second quarter. Denver felt forced to call a timeout and the Boston crowd made their appreciation known, giving the newcomer a standing ovation.
White also made a key basket late in the fourth quarter when he made a layup with just 1:59 on the clock to put the Celtics up by three, getting fouled in the process. White missed the and-one but the Celtics went on the win the game 108-102 with White finishing with totals of 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists in his debut with his new team.
