MLB Rumors: Top 3 Odds-On Favorites To Land Deandre Ayton

Many NBA observers are betting that Deandre Ayton takes his talents out of Phoenix this offseason. But where are they betting that the restricted free agent winds up?

After last offseason, when Ayton was furious that the Phoenix Suns didn't offer him the rookie max extension, and then a benching in their Game 7 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this month, there are a number of teams rumored to be interested in the Suns big man. But as a restricted free agent, the Suns won't be willing to let him go on the cheap.

Here's which teams the betting line, according to SportsBetting.ag, says are most likely to land Ayton:

Detroit Pistons +150

The Pistons can create all the space they need under the salary cap to make Ayton a max offer by simply trading away Kelly Olynyk. With Cade Cunningham running the point, Ayton would have a ready-made Chris Paul replacement as a lead guard able to get him the ball in position to score.

The Pistons, with Cunningham and Saddiq Bey already set as cornerstone pieces, could push themselves into playoff contention in 2023 by adding a center like Ayton.

Indiana Pacers +300

Like in Detroit, Ayton would have an ideal pick-and-roll partner in Tyrese Haliburton. By renouncing several pieces, the Pacers could get to about $25M in cap space. For Indiana to land Ayton, however, they'd have to give up a good young asset to Phoenix in a sign and trade, making this move complicated.

San Antonio Spurs +450

Another team with gobs of cap space, the Spurs can offer Ayton what he's looking for. Again, he'd be a great fit with Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson, and the Spurs do have some other young pieces that might interest the Suns in a sign and trade.
