"Everybody Knows Those Rules Are Not Followed!": Jeff Van Gundy Rips NBA's Tampering Investigations

With the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers currently being investigated by the NBA for tampering violations, famed commentator and former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy has some choice words for the NBA on the matter:

"Everybody knows that those rules are not followed, AT ALL, in this league. There is not one team, one agent, one player, that is waiting until June 30... No one — no one is waiting until then," said Van Gundy on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

"We just have to understand in this league, that the rules as far as it pertains to free agency are not being followed. And they never will be."

But, Jeff, isn't there something that can be done?

"There's nothing the league can actually do about it, because they would have to rely on the integrity of the teams, and the agents and the players to not engage in early negotiations. It's not gonna happen!"

"So to pick on individual things (he referenced the Milwaukee Bucks getting penalized last year, and the Knicks & Sixers being investigated this year) it's a no-win situation."

The Bucks lost a 2nd-round draft pick last year for their failed Bogdan Bogdanovic sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings. Now the Knicks are being investigated for their early actions around free agent signee Jalen Brunson, while the Sixers are being looked into around their PJ Tucker early-signing.
