Celtics Signing Former Raptors Forward

Perhaps you could say that the Boston Celtics are stocking up on Champagnie in advance of the playoffs. Or, if you didn't want to make a bad joke, you could just say that the Celtics have signed forward Justin Champagnie for the rest of the season.

Champagnie is having a nice season in the G League, averaging averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in 31.3 minutes per game. He fills the Celtics 15th roster spot.

The 21-year-old Champagnie went undrafted in 2021, but signed with the Toronto Raptors, and spent the season with them last year, averaging 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in just under eight minutes per game over 36 contests. He then won a training camp competition for a job in The Six, but with little chance of any significant playing time, he was released after only three games.

The 6'6" forward will likely get to play some in the final four games of the season so that the Celts can give some of their stars some extra "load management" time in preparation for the postseason. Boston is pretty much locked into the 2nd seed in the East.
