Insider: Raptors & Siakam “On The Verge Of Parting Ways”

With OG Anunoby already well-established with the New York Knicks, Pascal Siakam's future is the big focus of attention now for the Toronto Raptors and the NBA trade market. The status of the two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA player has been the big question for the Raptors for over a year now. And according to NBA insider Chris Haynes on Friday, it sounds like Siakam will be a former Raptor anytime now.

Hayes said today that he’s heard that Siakam and the Raptors “are on the verge of parting ways.”

There’s less than four weeks to go now before the February 8th trade deadline, but team president Masai Ujiri obviously wasn’t waiting around until the last minute to strike a deal with the Knicks for Anunoby; it’s reasonable to consider that he may act sooner than later with regards to Siakam as well.

The problem in getting a deal done for the pending UFA, however, is that many teams could be scared off by Siakam‘s frequent pronouncements that he prefers to stay in Toronto and that he will not sign an extension with any team that trades for him. In addition, says Haynes, some teams, especially those with cap space next summer may not be inclined to trade a ton of assets for Siakam now, knowing they could possibly get him in free agency.

One team that seems to be hot and heavy in conversations with Toronto, is the Dallas Mavericks.

Insider Jake Fisher of Yahoo Sports says discussions have definitely taken place between the two teams.

“I know there are absolutely people in Dallas who really think Pascal is a missing piece that could potentially pair with Luka [Doncic] and Kyrie Irving and all of a sudden you look up and the Mavericks off are a legitimate contender in the West.”

Other teams have been involved as well, including the Atlanta Hawks and the Indiana Pacers.
