NBA Trade Rumors: Trae Young Lands In South Beach In Blockbuster Proposal
Trae Young was recently benched by the Atlanta Hawks (who were fined by the NBA a whopping $100,000 for doing so). The team said he had Achilles tendinits, but the League disagreed and fined them.
Young always seems to find himself in the spotlight for one reason or another. He was the subject of trade rumours all summer around Atlanta, but after his backcourt mate Dejounte Murray got dealt, the talk died down. Has it really all gone away, though?
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report hasn't forgotten about the Young rumors, and he's proposed a blockbuster trade that would get the three-time All-Star point guard to South Beach. Here's how it would break down:
Miami Heat Receive:
- PG Trae Young
- F/C Larry Nance Jr.
Atlanta Hawks Receive:
- G Tyler Herro
- F Duncan Robinson
- F/C Kel'el Ware
- 2029 first-round pick (unprotected)*
The Miami Heat are hovering below the .500 mark, at 7-8, and not many see them as a true championship contender at this point. They need to make a big splash on the trade market this season if they're going to get themselves into the conversation. Acquiring the star point guard who is leading the NBA in assists right now (11.9), could be the trick to get it done.
In this deal, they'd also get a much-needed additional big man who can play center in Nance Jr., freeing up Bam Adebayo to play a bit more at the 'four'.
As for the Hawks, they're going younger, and have a nice nucleus of young pieces to go into the future, including Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson and 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher. In this trade, in addition to adding another first-rounder, they get a sizzling hot player from the Heat.
Herro is off to the best start of his career, averaging a personal best 23.7 points and 5.1 assists. He's also shooting a career-high 42% from beyond the arc. In fact, aside from assists, those scoring numbers far outstrip what Trae has been doing this season. And he's still just 24, and could fit right in with the Hawks' newfound youth movement.
