NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers in "Constant Contact" With Nets About 2 Trade Candidates
The Los Angeles Lakers are said to be one of the most active teams thus far on the trade market. A center is one big priority, but a perimeter defender who can shoot threes is another huge one.
To that end, the Lakers have been in "constant contact" with the Brooklyn Nets about one of their ongoing top trade pieces, Dorian Finney-Smith. The 3-and-D wing has been on the trade block pretty much from the time they acquired him at the 2023 trade deadline from the Dallas Mavericks in the Kyrie Irving trade.
According to Anthony F. Irwin of Clutch Points, the Lakers "checked in on" Finney-Smith last season and have once again been all over the Nets about him this year.
Another name that Irwin mentions as a Lakers target is Cam Johnson. That one might be a little more difficult to pull off, however.
His asking price is kind of tough for the Lakers to match. He's going to be a really popular name as we near the deadline... It's going to be a first-rounder and stuff (to get a deal done for Johnson).
He's still only 28, with a long-term deal (two more seasons after this one at $22 million AAV), and is averaging 18.3 points while shooting a sizzling 43% from the three-point line for the Nets this season.
Finney-Smith, 31, is averaging 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and a career-high 41% from distance. Either one would be a tremendous add for the Purple & Gold.
The Lakers are currently 10-7, tied for 5th in the Western Conference, but only three games out of top spot.
