3 Top Landing Spots For Pending Free Agent Myles Turner
As one of the top free agents for the upcoming summer, the Indiana Pacers' Myles Turner will be much sought-after on the open market—IF the Pacers don't re-sign him first to head off the feeding frenzy.
Turner was an annual regular on the rumor mill for at least three years, until he signed a two-year extension in Indiana midway through the 2023-24 season. But that contract is coming to an end as soon as the Pacers' playoff run expires. He's been a great fit alongside Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam, and has had a dominant playoff performance, but will he be able to get paid what he's looking for ($30M+ AAV) from the small-market team?
Let's take a look at three landing spots that make the most sense for Turner if he does indeed hit the open market.
Golden State Warriors
Yes, the Dubs have been doing just fine since they acquired Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline from the Miami Heat. More than fine, in fact, as they ran off a 23-7 record with Butler, and now find themselves in the Western Conference semifinals (the current injury to Steph Curry, however, has the Warriors currently in a bit of trouble).
But with Curry (when healthy) roaming the perimeter and Butler and Green doing their thing at forward, wouldn't a dynamic scorer and rim-protector at the center spot lift this team to even greater heights?
Los Angeles Lakers
After the Lakers traded Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic, it left a huge hole in the middle. Jaxson Hayes was certainly not the answer. The Purple & Gold will try to address that this summer, and they have repeatedly been linked to Turner over the years. Now, more than ever, they need to go all out to land him. A sign-and-trade would be the only way to make it happen.
Charlotte Hornets
The Bugs have an unhappy (and injury-prone) big man on their hands in Mark Williams. They tried to trade him to the Lakers at the deadline in February, but that deal fell through when he failed his medical in Hollywood. He came back to Charlotte, and spent the rest of the season alternating between being scratched from the lineup, to excellent games, to mediocre ones. They should try to move on from the unreliable and unhappy—yet super talented—center, and try to bring in Turner to pair with superstar guard LeMelo Ball (though Ball is also a trade candidate himself).
