NBA Rumors: Blockbuster 3-Team Trade Pairs Kevin Durant With Victor Wembanyama

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (1) talks with Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant

As the 2024–25 NBA season wraps up, the Phoenix Suns face a franchise-altering decision regarding Kevin Durant.

Despite averaging 26.6 PPG this season, the 36-year-old superstar’s future is in question after Phoenix’s disappointing campaign. A bold three-team trade proposal could send Durant to the San Antonio Spurs, pairing him with Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox—while sending ripple effects across the league.

Trade Breakdown

San Antonio Spurs Receive: Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: Nic Claxton, Keldon Johnson, 2025 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2027 First-Round Pick (ATL)

Brooklyn Nets Receive: Devin Vassell, 2029 First-Round Pick

Why This Trade Works

1. Spurs Form a Superteam with Durant, Wembanyama & Fox

Adding Kevin Durant (26.6 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 4.2 APG) to a core of Wembanyama (24.3 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 3.8 BPG) and De'Aaron Fox (23.5 PPG, 6.3 APG) would make San Antonio a legitimate title threat.

Durant’s elite scoring efficiency (52.7% FG) and championship experience would accelerate the Spurs' timeline, transforming them from rising underdogs to Western Conference powerhouses—even in the post-Popovich era.

2. Suns Reset Around Devin Booker

By moving Durant, Phoenix would acquire Nic Claxton (10.3 PPG, 7.4 RPG), a defensive anchor, and Keldon Johnson (12.7 PPG, 4.8 RPG), a proven wing—along with two future first-round picks.

This gives the Suns flexibility to rebuild around Devin Booker, who just became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer (passing Walter Davis).

Shedding Durant’s contract also allows them to develop a younger, more balanced roster.

3. Nets Secure a Rising Star & Draft Capital

Brooklyn would land Devin Vassell (16.3 PPG, 4.0 RPG), a 24-year-old two-way wing, and a future first-round pick.

Combined with their five picks in the upcoming draft and over 10 future first-rounders, the Nets could either develop their core (Vassell, Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Day’Ron Sharpe) or package assets for another star.

If executed, this deal could redefine the NBA’s balance of power heading into next season. This deal would dramatically shift the trajectories of all three franchises, with the Spurs emerging as instant contenders, the Suns pivoting to a rebuild, and the Nets stockpiling young talent and draft assets.
