Breaking: Zion Williamson Facing Serious Accusations

One of the biggest names on the rumor mill this offseason will be the New Orleans Pelicans' Zion Williamson, the oft-injured, but supremely talented and dominant power forward. Unfortunately, he's now facing serious accusations that could put any trade talk on hold.

The 6-foot-6, 284 pound Williamson has been accused of rape and domestic violence in a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles. The accuser is a woman who said she dated Zion for nearly five years, going all the way back to his Duke days.

Willamson, now 24, has denied all the accusations, which include, as stated in the civil lawsuit, per The Athletic, that he allegedly "repeatedly raped her, hit and kicked her and made her fear for her life in several instances," as well as "falsely imprisoned and stalked her, threatened to kill her and that he had a pattern of 'abusive, controlling, and threatening behavior.'"

Zion's lawyers have framed the accuser's claims as an extortion attempt and they "intend to file counterclaims and seek significant damages for this defamatory lawsuit.”

Williamson, when healthy, is as dynamic an offensive force as there is, averaging 24.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 214 regular-season games.

But of course, staying healthy is not something he's been very good at, missing over 55% of his team's games since coming into the league in 2019.

It's thought that the Pelicans might finally make a move to ship Williamson elsewhere this summer, though it's not known how this civil lawsuit could impact that plan.

He has three years remaining on his contract at about $42M per season, however, none of it is guaranteed. If the Pelicans waive him before July 1st this year, they don't owe him a penny more.
