NBA Trade Rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo Lands With Rockets in Blockbuster Proposal
The Houston Rockets want to take their rebuild to serious contention level next season, while the Milwaukee Bucks might be going in the other direction. After another early playoff exit, Giannis Antetokounmpo may be looking at moving on, while he's still in his prime. He could ask for a trade this summer.
Taking those two situations into account, we have a look at a proposed trade pitched by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, who can see the Greek Freak landing in the Lone Star State in the form of this huge four-player, two-pick offer:
Houston Rockets Receive:
- PF Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks Receive:
- SG Jalen Green
- PF Jabari Smith Jr.
- F Cam Whitmore
- PG Aaron Holiday
- 2025 first-round pick (via Phoenix Suns)
- 2027 first-round pick (via Phoenix Suns)
The Rockets weren't in the top 10 of the league in offensive rating, and as Swartz notes, "Antetokounmpo has averaged 30.0 points per game over the last five seasons and would be the offensive answer this team needs." Not to mention the true superstar they've been looking for.
Under this scenario, the Rockets could field a starting lineup of Giannis, Alperen Sengun, Dillon Brooks, Amen Thompson and Fred VanVleet. Jalen Green was supposed to be the dynamic scorer in the Houston lineup, but hasn't really panned out quite to the level the Rockets had hoped. He faded badly in the playoffs. They could look to trade him and his impending extension that kicks in next year at $33 million per season.
The Bucks got their championship with Giannis a few years back, but it's clear the team isn't in line for another one anytime soon under its current iteration. It's time to move on into the next era. Milwaukee, in this hypothetical proposal, would get to kick-start their rebuild with potential young stars in Green and Smith Jr., while nabbing another couple of very good first-rounders.
