NBA Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings Eyeing Two All-Star Point Guards
The Sacramento Kings, just three years ago, had two of the top point guards in the NBA in their backcourt. Now, in the summer of 2025, they're both gone, and the team is "motivated" to find a new long-term solution at the point.
Two notable trade targets are on their radar.
“It’s no secret that we need a true point guard with this current mixture of talent on the roster,” GM Scott Perry said recently.Sacramento is motivated to find a long-term solution at point guard and has shown interest in Darius Garland and Trae Young, per @GrantAfseth pic.twitter.com/acZU98vZJy

Grant Afseth of rg.org reports that the Kings are looking into nabbing one of Darius Garland from the Cleveland Cavaliers, or Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
The Kings are motivated to acquire a point guard this summer. After experimenting with Malik Monk at point guard down the stretch of the season, the organization recognizes the need for a true floor general as the team looks to reconfigure its roster after trading Fox.
Darius Garland, Cleveland Cavaliers
"The Sacramento Kings have identified Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland as a trade target as they seek to address the team’s vacancy at lead guard this offseason," multiple sources told Afseth.
After averaging 20.6 points and 6.7 assists this past season in 75 games, while shooting 40% from long distance, Garland earned his second All-Star nod. Afseth notes that the Cavs "are open to moving Garland under the right circumstances."
The Cavaliers dominated the Eastern Conference during the regular season, finishing with a 64-18 record under their 'Core Four' of Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. But they came up short in the playoffs, and might be looking to shuffle things up.
Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks are apparently doing their "due diligence" around potential trade avenues for their longtime point guard. They have a huge decision to make on Young this summer, as he is eligible for a four-year, $228.6 million max extension.
"Multiple league sources told RG that the Atlanta Hawks have spoken with the Kings on a potential trade framework centered around Trae Young in recent weeks," wrote Afseth. "However, those talks have since stalled."
Young's extension talks in Atlanta will definitely be a situation to follow, as the lack of an agreement could trigger a trade. The Kings are standing by, ready to jump back in.
