Breaking: Unexpected News As Paul George Undergoes Knee Surgery

This wasn't part of the summer plan for Paul George and the Philadelphia 76ers. A training injury last week has led to George having to undergo knee surgery.

Shams Charania reports that PG had a successful arthroscopic procedure on his left knee Monday after an injury suffered during a recent workout. He'll begin a rehab program and "be re-evaluated prior to start of training camp." His status for the start of the season is unknown at this time.

But George isn't the only Sixers star who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery since the end of the season. Joel Embiid, the key cog in the Sixers machine, still has not returned to full on-court basketball activities after surgery in April, per the Athletic's Tony Jones.

As for George, he had a rough first season in Philly, battling multiple injuries and playing in only 41 games, while averaging a 14-year low 16.2 points. The 35-year-old shot a meager 43% from the floor, and one of the worst marks in his career from three-point range, at 35.8%.

George still has three years and $160 million owing him on a contract that the Sixers must now be certainly regretting.
