Jonathan Kuminga Will Re-Sign With Warriors—Under One Specific Condition

Jonathan Kuminga has been one of the most talked-about players this offseason, as the restricted free agent's future is very much in question with the Golden State Warriors. In fact, a trade shipping him out of San Francisco is a near certainty—sooner or later. With 'later' being the operative word at this point.

According to insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, Kuminga will re-sign with the Warriors, but only with the understanding that he’ll be traded sometime before the February deadline.

Kuminga and his camp are expected to meet with several teams while executives and others are gathered together in Vegas for Summer League over the next 10 days or so, but not much is expected to come out of it.

A couple of the most notable suitors for Kuminga in potential sign-and-trade deals have become less likely to pull the trigger during the summer, reports Siegel.

The Sacramento Kings, because they are so close to the first-apron hard cap, wouldn't be able to afford to bring in Kuminga on a new deal unless they were to jettison either DeMar DeRozan or Malik Monk.

The Miami Heat, another team with strong interest, "are basically out of the Kuminga sweepstakes" as well, says Siegel, after their acquisition of Norman Powell.

The insider's conversations at Summer League have led him to believe that three other teams with far more cap space are out of the picture as well—the Utah Jazz, Brooklyn Nets, and Charlotte Hornets.

So, in short, there isn't a market for Kuminga at this point, leading to only one conclusion:

Ultimately, the expectation from rival teams around the NBA is that Kuminga will go back to the Warriors with the mutual understanding that he will be moved before the trade deadline in February.
