NBA Free Agency: Insider Says Al Horford Deal Is All But Done

Former Boston Celtics NBA champion Al Horford, 39, appears to have made his decision on a landing spot in free agency. According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Horford has a verbal agreement in place with the Golden State Warriors.

There are two schools of thought on when this Horford signing with the Dubs will actually take place. One says that a deal could be signed within the next 24 hours; another indicates that it might not happen until the Jonathan Kuminga situation is resolved in Golden State. Hmm... This could take a while.

The restricted free agent, Kuminga, wants to move on, and while the Warriors are ready for him to leave town, their asking price is holding up any sign-and-trades.

As for Horford, Siegel writes, "A handful of teams at NBA Summer League stated Horford and (De'Anthony) Melton already have verbal agreements in place with Golden State."

The veteran big man had been a Celtic for the past four seasons, plus three others earlier in his career. He was a key cog in their 2024 NBA title.

Boston has also lost both Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday from that championship team this summer, as they were desperate to get under the oppressive second apron.

The Warriors, meanwhile, have not made a single roster move since the season ended, either to bring in or send out any troops—pending the Horford (and Melton) moves.
