NBA News: Chris Paul's Future—for 2025-26 And Beyond—Set To Be Revealed
Even at the age of 40, the future Hall of Famer Chris Paul can still play, as he proved last season in starting all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs. He tallied 7.4 assists per game while shooting 37.7% from beyond the arc, while helping to mentor young phenom Victor Wembanyama (before the latter was lost for the season in mid-February to a blood clot).
Now a free agent once again, Paul is ready for a new challenge. According to Joey Linn of Sports Illustrated (h/t Hoops Wire), Paul will be signing with his old team, the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2025-26 season—which, Linn says, will also be his last in the NBA.
Amid several reports linking Paul to a Clippers reunion, the sense around Summer League this past week was that his return to LA is inevitable. While in Las Vegas, I spoke with sources close to Paul and his former franchise who indicated strong belief that his final season will be played for the Clippers.
Even Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank has gone as far as admitting that they are "strongly, strongly considering" bringing back CP3.

“He’s a great player. He’s a great Clipper. He possesses some of the qualities we just referenced… We’re strongly, strongly considering him," said Frank.
Paul is a Clippers legend, playing six seasons there in the previous decade, and earning five of his 12 All-Star nods while leading 'Lob City' to five 50+ win seasons and six straight playoff appearances. Unfortunately, head coaches Vinny Del Negro, and more notably, Doc Rivers, just could not get that talented team over the hump. Those Clips also featured Blake Griffin at the height of his powers, as well as DeAndre Jordan and Jamal Crawford at the peak of their games as well.
Now, Paul, if signed, would be joining a retooled Clippers squad that has added Brook Lopez and John Collins up front, as well as newly-signed Bradley Beal. They also re-signed James Harden as their starting lead guard. Paul will have to settle for coming off the bench in his final season. But from the sounds of his priorities, that shouldn't be a problem.
His landing in Los Angeles has seemed like an inevitability all along, as even CP3 himself said in an interview earlier this month that staying close to LA was his priority, and that family was more important to him.
“My wife and my kids are in LA… I love to play basketball, but I love my kids and my family more. That is gonna weigh a huge part on my decision on what happens next year.”
So it's one more shot at that elusive ring for Chris Paul, and it appears that one final attempt will be coming with the Clippers.
