NBA Trade Rumors: Wild 4-Team Proposed Trade Sends Kuminga To Sac-Town
The Jonathan Kuminga drama continues to play out in Golden State, and likely will all summer long. But there are a couple of teams interested in the disgruntled Warriors restricted free agent, and with that, insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points has proposed a wild four-team deal that would get Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings, and Malik Monk to Miami.
The hypothetical trade, which also involves the Utah Jazz, would go down like this:
Sacramento Kings receive:- F Jonathan Kuminga
Miami Heat receive:
- G Malik Monk
- F KJ Martin
Golden State Warriors receive:
- G Devin Carter
- F Haywood Highsmith
- SAC 2027 1st-round pick (Top-8 protected)
Utah Jazz receive:
- G Terry Rozier
- MIA 2029 1st-round pick swap (More favorable to UTA)
- CHA 2027 2nd-round pick (via MIA)
As we noted in an earlier story, the Kings have a backcourt overcrowding situation which is preventing them from signing Russell Westbrook. One notable guard has to go. Therefore, this deal not only allows them to land the coveted young RFA they desire in Kuminga, it clears space for Russ by moving out Monk to Miami.
The Kings, in this proposed sign-and-trade scenario, would ink Kuminga to a four-year, $112 million contract, which gets him well over the $25M AAV mark (he wanted $30M/year at one point, but hey, he'll have to suffer.)
The Heat get another much-needed scorer for their lineup in Monk, while in addition, they get to dump Rozier's $26.6 million owing for the coming season.
The one big problem with this eye-popping four-team proposal, of course, is that the Warriors would not be getting the big return package they were hoping for. As Siegel writes, the Dubs "have made it known to the Kings" that they'd be interested in a sign-and-trade return for Kuminga that features either Keon Ellis or Keegan Murray.
Forget Murray, the Kings have made him a core piece of their future. But maybe Ellis could somehow be brought into this conversation.
Whatever the case, this is all hypothetical at this point, and the Kuminga Saga seems like it will be with us through the dog days of August, at least.
