New Details Emerge as $108M Forward Marcus Morris Charged in Casino Thefts

Marcus Morris Jr. charged in fraud case over Las Vegas casinos theft

You might say that Marcus Morris took a huge gamble… And lost.

It's been revealed that the 35-year-old former New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and LA Clippers forward—who earned over $108 million in his career—faces a felony charge in relation to an alleged theft of over $250,000 from prominent Las Vegas casinos.

TMZ Sports reports:

“According to court documents we obtained, the NBA player allegedly got $115,000 from the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino via bad checks in May 2024 ... and never paid it back when the checks bounced. Officials state around a month later, in June 2024, he performed a similar scam at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino ... netting $150,000 through checks he knew wouldn't cash.”

How much did Marcus Morris earn in his NBA career?

It's hard to imagine why a player who has earned over $108 million in a 13-year NBA career would resort to this kind of thing—allegedly—but we might soon find out.

In addition, the documents show two separate warrants for Morris' arrest were issued over the claims earlier this year.

He has been detained since being taken into custody on Saturday, for what was then being called 'writing bad checks.'

Morris' lawyer, Yony Noy, called the arrest "Absolute insanity!" on Sunday night, per TMZ. Morris was denied bond, and remains behind bars.

He did not play this past season, but from 2011, when he was a first-round pick, through 2024, the 6'8" forward averaged 12.8 points and 4.4 rebounds across 832 NBA games with eight different teams.

His biggest contract in the league was a four-year, $64 million deal with the LA Clippers that expired after the 2023-24 season. He last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers that season after being waived by the San Antonio Spurs.
