10-Year Veteran Richaun Holmes Signs Deal for 2025-26 in Intriguing Location

Former Philadelphia 76ers, Sacramento Kings, and Washington Wizards center Richaun Holmes has decided, after 10 years, to accept an opportunity outside the NBA, signing with Panathinaikos in Greece.

Holmes arrived in Greece on Saturday, armed with a big smile as he embarks on his new career overseas. It's a two-year deal for the center, and word is that he'll be one of the highest-paid players in Europe, with a $2.7 million USD salary for the coming season, and a player option on the second year, at $2.9 million. He had averaged around $12 million a year in the NBA over the past four seasons.

He became a free agent back on July 14, after the Wizards waived him, deciding not to pick up his $13 million salary for the coming year.

Holmes joins familiar NBAers Kendrick Nunn, Cedi Osman and Omer Yurtseven on the EuroLeague team.

"It was hard to say no to Panathinaikos," Holmes said upon arriving. "Let’s go for the 8th," referring to their seven EuroLeague titles.

In 489 career NBA games, the 31-year-old big man averaged 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds, but his peak form came in Sacramento, where he was a fan favorite for his dunking and his defense, averaging 10.4 points, 6.6 boards and 1.1 blocked shots with them in four seasons. His career year came in 2020-21, when he posted marks of 14.2 ppg, 8.3 boards, and 1.6 blocks.
