NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors & Bulls Linked in Wild One-for-One Trade
The only RFA situation that's even close to as sticky right now as the Jonathan Kuminga drama is in Golden State, is the Josh Giddey stalemate with the Chicago Bulls.
While Giddey came into the offseason looking for a $30 million a year salary, the Bulls are remaining steadfast in the $20 million AAV range, and the two sides may even be making some headway on a three-year deal. But it's not been smooth sailing, leading rival teams to start wondering if they could potentially pry Giddey loose from the Windy City, as insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report suggests:
I can report that there are multiple teams have reached out to Josh Giddey's representation about having interest in Giddey. Golden State is one of them. They would be interested depending on how the machinations would go in some type of Josh Giddey - Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding.
The Warriors, as Fischer explains it, were in on Giddey back on Draft Night in 2021, when they had the #7 selection. But the Bulls, at #6, snagged Giddey, and the Dubs "were happy to select Kuminga" at 7.
And while Golden State is still certainly interested in the Aussie point guard, Fischer adds that the Bulls are not showing any tendency to engage.
"There is not a lot of enthusiasm from these rival teams about calling the Bulls front office and working out a sign-and-trade... They don't generate a lot of productive back-and-forth with other teams... And they know Chicago doesn't really want to make any sign-and-trade scenarios come to fruition."
Giddey averaged 14.6 points per game for the Bulls in his first season with the team, while posting career-highs with 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 38.7% shooting from long distance. The Bulls really do want to keep him.
Kuminga had a slight dip in production and minutes with the Warriors last season, and was a forgotten man in the playoffs for head coach Steve Kerr until Steph Curry went down to injury.
