Breaking: Dallas Mavericks Waive Recent 1st-Round Pick

A former first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, power forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper, has been cut loose by the Dallas Mavericks after just two seasons.

The Mavs will use the waive-and-stretch provision to send Prosper packing, and the 23-year-old is now expected to draw a fair amount of interest on the free agent market. They spent some time trying to find a trade, but to no avail.

The move now allows Dallas the cap space to re-sign Dante Exum.

Prosper was selected with the 24th overall pick in the 2023 Draft, but the 6'8" forward only got into 40 games and averaged just 8.4 minutes in those contests in his rookie season with Dallas. He averaged 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds.

Last year, as a sophomore in the league, he improved only incrementally, getting into 54 games, at 11 minutes a night, and averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds.

His time in the G League in 2023-24 showed the promise that many held for Prosper, as he averaged 18.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 42.5% shooting from long distance in 24 games.
