NBA Rumors: Warriors Make Final Decision on Kuminga

According to a report, the Golden State Warriors have taken a firm stance and made a final decision on what to do with the ongoing Jonathan Kuminga drama.

Per Tim Kawakami in the San Francisco Standard, sign-and-trade talks for the RFA have been fruitless, and "a source says they're now out on those talks" and that Jonathan Kuminga will be on the team this season.

and Kuminga will start the 2025-26 season as a Warrior.

The word I got when I checked in with a Warriors source on Sunday: Kuminga won't be traded this summer. He'll be back on the Warriors' roster to start the season. And it'll either come when he signs the Warriors' offer or accepts the $7.9 million one-year qualifying offer.

The latest (and last, we presume) Warriors offer to the restricted free agent was two years at $45 million. That's a far cry from the $30 million annual stipend the 22-year-old insists he's deserving of.

Kawakami admits that this stance by Golden State could be a negotiating tactic for any further talks with the two teams who seem most interested in working out a sign-and-trade for Kuminga—the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns.

But he doubts it.

"I don't think the Warriors have heard any sign-and-trade offer, from the Kings or anybody, that they've been remotely tempted to accept.

"Several sources have indicated that the Warriors have been unenthusiastic about the general idea of a Kuminga sign-and-trade from the outset. The broad context is that Joe Lacob remains a fan of Kuminga's and is determined to either keep the 22-year-old on the roster or get real value in return. And he's willing to wait it out."

In his fourth season last year, Kuminga, the former 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, averaged 15.3 points per game, with 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He averaged two fewer minutes per game in head coach Steve Kerr's rotation, at 24.3.
