NBA Trade News: Miami Heat & Brooklyn Nets Complete Swap

\
The Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets have completed a trade, with the Heat pulling off a salary dump, sending injured forward Haywood Highsmith to the Nets in exchange for a protected draft pick.

Specifically, the Heat send Highsmith along with a 2032 second-round pick in return for a protected 2026 second-round pick. The move gets the Heat under the luxury tax, as he was owed $5.6 million this coming season on an expiring deal.

The 6'7" 3-and-D forward started 42 of his 74 games for the Heat last season, taking the tough defensive assignments on the wing, while averaging 6.5 points per game, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 24.6 minutes per night, all career highs. He shot 38.2% from three-point range, following a 39.6% mark the year before.

Newest Brooklyn Net Highsmith suffered meniscus tear

However, he suffered a knee injury this offseason during workouts, and recently underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear. Highsmith's return timeline was set at eight to 10 weeks, which should enable him to join the Nets lineup soon after the regular season begins.

Most likely, however, Highsmith will end up being flipped by Brooklyn once the trade deadline approaches.

The Nets are still about $22 million below the salary cap.
