Agent Reveals Why He Dumped Ben Simmons As A Client
We heard late last week that Simmons' agent Bernie Lee had dumped him as a client. Then this week we learned that Simmons, a free agent, had turned down a minimum salary contract offer from the New York Knicks.
Turns out, those two instances are related.

The agent, Lee, dropped Simmons after the player indicated that he "wasn't interested" in signing a contract with the Knicks. The New York Post's Stefan Bondy reported that Lee made up his mind after Simmons "sent signals that he wasn't interested in whatever came from his agent's conversations with the Knicks."
The problem is, that was the only team showing anything close to an offer for Simmons in free agency, and the agent was obviously just fed up, recognizing that the depressed asset just wasn't worth his trouble any longer.
It's not much of a surprise that Simmons, the reluctant shooter who wants no part of the pressures of being on the NBA stage, would not want to play in the mecca of basketball, the biggest stage in the game, Madison Square Garden.
Some around the NBA figure that Simmons' career is done.
Simmons, 29, a former three-time All-Star at the beginning of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, has become persona non grata around the league, after holdouts, injuries and a complete disinterest in competing have sent his career into a tailspin.
He split last season between the Brooklyn Nets and the LA Clippers, but in 18 games in LA, he averaged just 2.9 points in 18 minutes per game.
