Free Agent Signing: Bulls Hand Out Huge Contract to Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey and the Chicago Bulls have reached a compromise. The restricted free agent was originally seeking a contract worth $30 million a year, totalling $150 million. With training camp just a few weeks away, he has decided to agree to a deal with the Bulls for $100 million over four years—a $25M AAV.

Giddey, the 6-foot-8 point guard, averaged close to a triple-double after the All-Star Break last season, at 21.2 points per game, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists, helping the Bulls to secure a Play-In berth down the stretch.

Overall on the season, Giddey had a strong first year in The Windy City, averaging 14.6 points with 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists. He shot a career-best 37.8% from beyond the arc. His boards and assists numbers were career-highs as well, as was his 1.2 steals per game.

He was obtained by the Bulls last summer in a trade for defensive dynamo Alex Caruso, who helped the Thunder to the NBA championship.

Giddey was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft by Oklahoma City. As a 19-year-old in his rookie season, he became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, with 17 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds in a game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Giddey's signing leaves only two notable RFAs still without a contract for the coming season, Golden State's Jonathan Kuminga and Philadelphia's Quentin Grimes.
