Dallas Mavericks Sign Forward to $90 million deal

The Dallas Mavericks have locked up a key piece of their squad for the foreseeable future, signing versatile 3-and-D forward PJ Washington to a four-year, $90 million extension.

The contract has an average annual value of $22.5 million. He has one year to run on his current deal at $14.1 million, and the new pact kicks in in 2026-27.

His size and length make him tough to handle on the defensive side of the ball, all the while contributing 14.7 points last season on 38% shooting from beyond the arc. He joined the Mavs in a trade deadline deal in 2024 and was a key player in their run to the NBA Finals that year. He started all 22 playoff games, playing 35.7 minutes a night, while playing his excellent defense and adding 13 points a game.

The 27-year-old six-year veteran just became eligible for an extension last week, and he is now locked in to Big D through the 2029-30 season.

Due to the contract, he's not eligible to be traded for six months, until March 3, which is one month after the trade deadline. So he's set in Dallas at least through this season.

Washington was a first-round pick (12th overall) by the Charlotte Hornets in 2019.

Brandon Williams, Dwight Powell, and the recently signed Dante Exum are now the only Mavs playing on expiring contracts this season.
