Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kidd led the Mavs to the Conference Finals in his first year in Dallas in 2022, then to the NBA Finals in 2024. But after the trade of Luka Doncic and the loss of Kyrie Irving to a torn ACL last season, they fell to just 39 wins and were ousted in the Play-In last season.
Overall, Kidd has a 179-149 record over his four years at the helm in Dallas.
“I’m grateful for the belief that Patrick & Nico have in me, and the trust we’ve built while working together to construct a team that Dallas can be proud of. We have a great group of players here who love basketball, are talented & coachable," said Kidd.
"There’s mutual respect across all departments, and Patrick & Nico set the tone for what we are trying to accomplish here. It’s even more special that I can continue to coach the team that drafted me, and where I was able to win a title as a player. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead & continuing to work toward bringing another championship back to Dallas.”
Kidd has a 362-339 record in nine seasons overall as an NBA head coach with Brooklyn and Milwaukee in addition to Dallas.
