Breaking: LeBron James To Miss Multiple Weeks for Lakers

LeBron James, LA Lakers

In a breaking development, LeBron James will not be starting the season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been declared out for at least three to four weeks due to sciatica.

According to reports, James, 40, will be "re-evaluated" at the 3-4 week mark. That could be indicative that he'll miss more time than that.

Sciatica is a compression or irritation of the Sciatic Nerve, which runs from the lower back through the back of the leg. It's the longest nerve in the human body.

How will the Lakers get by in the absence? Obviously no one can replace LeBron, but at least the Lakers added some depth this offseason with the likes of Jake LaRavia and Marcus Smart, who could pick up some of those minutes.

LeBron was set to enter his 23rd NBA season, an all-time NBA record.

He hasn't participated in training camp and has missed the Lakers' first two preseason games. But there had been hope that he would be ready for the start of the season later this month. That is obviously out the window, and we might not be seeing James in a Lakers uniform before sometime in November.

The 21-time All-Star and 4-time MVP was still near the top of his game last season, recording 24.4 points per game, 7.8 boards and 8.2 assists, playing 35 minutes per night.
