Breaking: Stunning Turn of Events for Knicks' Malcolm Brogdon
Malcolm Brogdon was brought in by the New York Knicks late this offseason to fill an important depth role in the backcourt. He nabbed one of the final roster spots. Now that roster spot has come open again after a sudden and stunning announcement by the 32-year-old Brogdon that he is retiring.

"He's been contemplating retirement the last few weeks," reports Shams Charania. "He informed the Knicks of his decision today. The Knicks had slated him to be the backup point guard."
Brogdon was the Sixth Man of the Year as recently as two years ago, in 2023, but he has never been able to stay healthy for a full season in his nine-year career, and the constant injuries have obviously taken their toll to where he felt he just couldn't continue. He made the following statement:
"Today I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career. I've proudly given mind, body & spirit to the game…Grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms…Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all who've had a place in my journey."
In addition to the 6MOY in '23, Brogdon also won the Rookie of the Year award back in 2017, beating out names like Joel Embiid (only 31 games played), Jaylen Brown and Jamal Murray.
But the long list of injuries has limited Brogdon to playing in only about 60% of his team's games over the course of his career, for teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Washington Wizards last season, where he averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 24 games. And yes, an injury, this one to his ankle, ended his season early.
In all, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds in his 463 NBA games, with a 38.8% mark from three-point range.
