NBA Trade Rumors: A Blockbuster Trade That Would Pair Up Giannis & Wemby
The season has only just begun, but the proposed trades to move Giannis Antetokounmpo out of Milwaukee are continuing in earnest. He has spent the summer going back and forth about whether he'd be willing to leave the Bucks.
Although rumors were rife that the Greek Freak had chosen the New York Knicks as his potential next destination, that hasn't stopped pundits around the league from suggesting other fits for Giannis.
Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report has dropped a blockbuster idea that would create the most exciting duo the Association could offer: A pairing up of Antetokounmpo with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio:
San Antonio Spurs receive:
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks receive:
- Stephon Castle
- Kelly Olynyk
- Jeremy Sochan
- Harrison Barnes
- 2026 first-round pick (via CHI; top-8 protected)
- 2026 first-round pick (most favorable of SAS or ATL)
- 2027 first-round pick (via ATL)
- 2030 first-round pick (most favorable of SAS, DAL, MIN; top-1 protected)
- 2031 first-round pick (most favorable of SAC or SAS)
This kind of move would make the Spurs impossible to stop on the offensive end, while giving them a former NBA Defensive Player of the Year award winner and five-time All-Defensive Team member in Giannis to add to the likely 2026 Defensive Player of the Year in Wemby, if he stays healthy. All in all, it would make the Spurs an immediate title contender.
As for the Bucks, the massive haul includes a LOT of first-round picks—five in all—that would be transfered to Milwaukee in this hypothetical deal. Not to mention last year's Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle. Sochan could potentially be a nice piece for the future as well, while Olynyk and Barnes can play a role, but wouldn't be big pieces moving forward for the Bucks.
Even still, Hughes suggests that might not be enough. "Milwaukee should ask for Dylan Harper and more draft capital, but this is at least a reasonable starting point for a team that won't be dealing from a position of strength."
