NBA Trade Rumors: NY Knicks Have Two Western Conf. Guards On Their Radar

The New York Knicks are looking for a little backcourt help, and according to reports, have their eyes set on two Western Conference guards, one of them a very familiar face at Madison Square Garden.

“League sources tell ClutchPoints that the Knicks have had exploratory discussions with two Western Conference teams about potential trades, with New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo at the center of various proposals," writes Kris Pursiainen. He adds that Minnesota has even sent New York's front office several trade proposals, but nothing has come close to fruition.

DiVincenzo, of course, was a key player for the Knicks back in 2023-24. He started 63 of 81 games that season, playing over 29 minutes a night. He posted marks of 15.5 ppg and 40.1% from three-point range—both career highs. In the playoffs, he was even more of a factor for the Knickerbockers, bumping his average up to 17.8 ppg while firing from long distance at a 42.5% clip. During the regular season, he set a team record at the time for three-pointers made in both a single game and a season.

Knicks have been chasing a DiVincenczo reunion

The team also had some internal discussions about re-acquiring DiVincenzo last year. He was traded from the Knicks to the Timberwolves as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns deal in the summer of 2024.

Bringing him back would also bring back another of the Nova Knicks, and reunite him with his old Villanova pals, Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges.

As for Alvarado, he will drop down to the 4th guard in the rotation in New Orleans once Dejounte Murray makes his season debut, likely right after the new year. He's been out recovering from a torn Achilles. With Jeremiah Fears having an impressive season as the starter at the point, and the return of Murray upcoming, there really isn't room for Alvarado.
