Warriors Trade Rumor: Golden State in 'Trade Dialogue' with 3 Teams
The Golden State Warriors are certainly not happy with their standing at this point in the NBA season. They finally crept one game over the .500 mark with their Christmas Day win over the Dallas Mavericks, but still sit in the 8-seed in the Western Conference. Their search for an athletic forward has taken on more urgency, to give Al Horford and Quinten Post some help up front.
We talked earlier about three targets at center that are on their radar, now we're also hearing from Brett Siegel of Clutch Points that the Dubs are in trade talks with three teams. He indicates their prime focus is on finding an athletic forward, as well as a bigger body who can help in terms of rebounding and defending the rim—not exactly specialties of Horford and Post.
The Warriors have held trade dialogue with several teams around the league as 2025 wraps up.
The Brooklyn Nets are one of those teams. But despite Nic Claxton being linked to the Warriors, Siegel feels that they're not looking to bring in anyone earning more than $15 million. In addition to the Nets, the Dubs are also talking with the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls.
A blockbuster deal with the Pelicans could land Trey Murphy III in Northern California, while the talks with the Bulls could include Nikola Vucevic or Coby White, though neither of those fit the exact description of what the Warriors are thought to be looking for. Vucevic would provide the rebounding, but recent rumours say that their interest in him has cooled.
Both the Bulls and Pels have had some interest in Jonathan Kuminga, a top trade chip on the Golden State roster, though Siegel writes that "neither organization is completely sold on him being a potential building block for their long-term futures."
The Warriors currently sit at 16-15, five games back in the loss column of the Houston Rockets, who occupy the final guaranteed playoff spot in the West. Expect Golden State to make some kind of moves before the trade deadline in about six weeks.
