NBA Rumors: 2 Teams Are Frontrunners to Land Michael Porter Jr.

He's being called the best available wing on the trade market as the deadline approaches in the NBA. Michael Porter Jr. has been lighting it up for the Brooklyn Nets this season in his first year as a top scoring option. But his days in the borough are likely numbered, as he can bring back a huge haul for the Nets in a trade.

“One trusted league source telling me that Michael Porter Jr. is a lock to move by the deadline so the Nets can sell high on his career year, it makes sense for the Nets to figure out who will be the centerpiece of their franchise a year from now,” writes John Hollinger in The Athletic. “Remember, Brooklyn owes a pick swap to Houston in 2027 and thus has no incentive to tank next season. They need some players.”

Two teams are being labeled as the frontrunners to land Porter Jr.—the Detroit Pistons and the Golden State Warriors.

Evan Sidery reports that Brooklyn will be able to get themselves "at least" a first-round pick and a top prospect in return for their leading scorer.

Porter, who played third fiddle for the Denver Nuggets for the first six years of his career, has seen an explosion in production this season as the No. 1 option for the Nets. He's up nearly eight points per game to 25.9 ppg, while also registering career highs in boards (7.5) and assists (2.4).

The Warriors are said to be offering a package that looks like this:

  • Jonathan Kuminga
  • Moses Moody
  • Buddy Hield
  • One first-round pick

He would take a ton of pressure off Steph Curry on the offensive end of the floor.

The Pistons have held their own internal discussions on whether to make a bid for Porter Jr.

One proposed deal would see a package of Tobias Harris, Caris LeVert, a 2026 1st round pick and a 2027 2nd round pick go to the Nets in return. However, some feel that Jaden Ivey would have to be included in order to get a deal done.
