NBA Trade Rumors: 2 Teams Are Officially OUT on Anthony Davis
It appears that the Dallas Mavericks will be stuck with Anthony Davis, whether they like it or not. His agent, Rich Paul, has reportedly had the nerve to demand a trade for his client out of Dallas. Good luck with that.
Possibly the only two teams that were seriously contemplating the potential of taking on Davis, the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks, have apparently dropped out, no longer with any interest. This report from NBA insider Jake Fischer.
In recent days, both the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors — teams previously described as the most ardent Davis suitors — have been signaling that they are no longer involved in significant trade talks with the Mavericks.
There it is. The Nico Harrison cloud might have to linger over Dallas for longer than team officials had hoped. The since-canned GM made the most criticized trade of the century in the NBA last season, when he sent generational superstar Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers in return for Davis. Since then, AD has played in just 29 of a possible 80+ games with the Mavs, while Luka is having another sensational season (though injury-shortened) by leading the league in points per game (33.5). He led the entire NBA in All-Star fan balloting.
As for Davis, the Mavericks would like to turn the page and move into a new era led by Cooper Flagg. AD has two years remaining on his bloated contract, at an AAV of $60M, if he were to pick up his player option in 2027-28. He's also hoping to get a huge extension.
As for the Hawks, they already made one huge move this season, trading Trae Young, but with his contract demands off their hands, they have no intention of bringing in another one of Davis's size.
The Raptors, meanwhile, have been focusing their needs at center on another All-Star pivot.
