NBA Trade Rumor: Rockets Looking To Pair Up Giannis With Kevin Durant

The Houston Rockets made a big splash last offseason to land an unhappy superstar, Kevin Durant, in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. A new report says that they are about to try the same thing again this coming summer, this time for Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated says the Rockets are expected to make a "major run" at Giannis, using their "treasure trove" of assets to make another blockbuster deal.

The Rockets sent out two key pieces last summer to land Durant, in Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. We even heard this past weekend that some Rockets players are "regretting" that the team made that move. While Kevin Durant is doing his usual KD things this season, the team is not at the same level as last year.

The Rockets finished last season in the 2-seed in the Western Conference, at 52-30 (.634 winning percentage). This season, through 71 games, they are at 43-28. That's 28 percentage points worse, at a .606 win pct.

But adding Giannis to the mix? That would help matters. Depending, of course, on what the return would be. That Durant trade robbed the Rockets of some important rotation players. Then, when Fred VanVleet went down before the season shortly after the KD deal was consummated, it was another void in the lineup.

Mannix says they have a "treasure trove" of assets, but it remains to be seen if they could manage to come up with something to satisfy Milwaukee in a trade, that would still keep a competitive roster in place around a potential Durant/Giannis duo.

Things have deteriorated between the Greek Freak and the Bucks, as the two sides are in a spat about whether Giannis should come back and play this season even though the Bucks are out of the playoff race.
